Rolled the dice this morning with the setup on a 15 acre pond that runs SW (dam end) to NE (Skinny water). In my scouting the day before the 45 ducks that I spotted were piled in the skinny water but the wind was out of the N. Today, wind was supposed to be out of the SW.
I set up near the skinny water and prepped my clients with the possibility of having to move quickly if birds did not cooperate. I love it when a plan comes together. We had zero wind the first 30 minutes and dropped 12 out of the 14 birds that stopped in for breakfast. The next hour or so we only had 5mph wind and the decoying birds kept bellying up to the buffet. The remaining hour or so of the hunt with clear sky and stronger winds had the birds a bit more reluctant to visit but we managed to scratch out a few more to put an end to a fine morning. Dads spending time with their sons in the field is a great thing!
Think these two enjoyed their holiday?
